It’s always heart-warming when friends ask me to photograph their families. So many of them have encouraged me from the start, so getting the ones they love in front of my camera makes me really happy. But this family in particular? I love everything about them.
I’ve known Susan for years – we actually met in college because she had befriended my long-time friend Abby while at WKU. But years after bumping into each other throughout college, I actually got to know her more when we worked together. And now, even though we don’t see each other everyday any more, we make time every month to meet up with a group of women to eat, talk, laugh and validate. That’s right – she’s part of my book club [that doesn’t read books].
And as much as I care about Susan, I care just as much about her family. I cheer Brad on when I hear about his latest PR appearances for the State Troopers. I love the stories that are told about 3-year-old Smith – getting to visit with him is way better though because he’s the sweetest little man. And then there’s Baby Girl that will be making her debut any day now… my heart actually skips a beat thinking about this wonderful family growing to four.
Did you hear that? It skipped another beat. :)
Combine all that caring and love together and then add the fact that I got to photograph them on an overcast fall morning? Happy girl right here.
Smith. You handsome fella. Stop being shy – I know you’re not shy!
I immediately see Susan in Smith’s face… I know there are pieces of Brad in there… but that smile is Susan’s.
Gah! Stop it kiddo! You make this too much fun!
We did some pictures of mom and dad alone to celebrate not only their love but the fact that there is a bump. A bump filled with Baby Girl. I think everyone that knows these two people are really excited to welcome this new baby into the world. And then hold her for as long as they possibly can. Only a few more days… then we can play hot potato with Susan’s mommy management.
*ooooh, I love it*
I think the photo above might be my favorite from our session. I knew that “corny” poses weren’t their thing, but I did make them try some new things. I heard a few times “Because we do this all the time at home!” which, I understand… I get it, I really do. This was one of those moments. And while they were laughing at the silliness of the pose and their own jokes… well, I snapped a super cute shot of two genuine smiles.
And I love it. A lot.
A lot a lot.
Oh Susan and Brad, I was so happy that you guys thought of me to photograph your family. I had so much fun with you guys, the location you chose, the light, your little man Smith, that beautiful bump, all of our jokes…. it was a fantastic morning. I send warm thoughts as you guys look forward to welcoming your new addition – and wait for that moment when I get to hear Baby Girl’s name for the first time! xoxo
