I’ve been so lucky to visit with Baby Calvin every week he’s been in the world. From day two and on, I’ve seen him grow like a weed, hear his parents stories from the past week, stare and smile at him for no reason at all. And I’ve also been able to see two people I admire and love, hold this little guy, bounce him, try to quiet him, feed him and give the most of their love every time they touch them.
Watching long-time friends become parents is my favorite thing about these little babies that come into the world, and Martha and Alan are no exception. I may not want children myself, but I understand the power of love. How it brings you closer together, creates a ball of tension in your chest and make you want to tell everyone what you’re feeling even though you can’t put it into words. There may be late nights of crying and feedings, insane diaper-changing stories, a few tears that fall by accident… but there’s this invisible force between Martha, Alan and Calvin that I think everyone feels. And makes everyone feel good and just keep smiling for no reason at all.
These three people – I love them to the moon and back. We couldn’t find better people to call friends. True story.
*the right – a favorite*
Calvin was born with wild hair. And with Martha being a hair dresser, she can’t keep her fingers out of it. Momma has a big crush on his furry little head.
Calvin found his thumb during our session. I didn’t think it was in his mouth, but the pictures make me think otherwise.
So there’s one thing to know about Calvin: he’s not afraid to express himself through crying. At all. :) He hates a wet diaper or missing snack time. There were a few times that day we had to pause, figure out what the problem was and evaluate next steps. This was one of those times – one minute Calvin is cool as a cucumber and the next…
One diaper change and swaddling later, and we have a sweet and sleepy little man.
Oh, Baby Calvin, you have no idea how many people love you, family and friends alike. And you have no idea how much you mean to your mom and dad – there may have been a little extra effort involved to bring you into the world, but there’s no shortage of snuggles, cuddles, kisses and all those things that moms and dads do best. Baby Calvin, keep up the good work eating and growing – I can’t wait to see you at our next weekly date. xoxo
