Cable Knits+Stripes Hat | Louisville Lifestyle Photographer

Late in 2012, I decided I wanted a special hat to wear to the Sugar Bowl.  Me and Mike had planned to visit New Orleans and take in the bowl game and all it’s glory as our Louisville Cardinals fought against the Florida Gators.  The trip was great.  The game was even greater.  The hat… well… I finished it this January instead.  The important part of this story is that I finished the adorable cable knit hat – not how long it took. :)

But if you’re interested to know, I can tell you exactly why this hat took as long as it did for me to complete it: it’s all purls.

ALL PURLS.

I don’t care for purls that much.  They take longer for me to do, they don’t look as neat, when I decrease on DPNs my yarn gets tangled up while my ladders get wider… it’s enough to make me scoff at it now.  But I buckled down and finished it.

I didn’t select the right weight of yarn, but I’m a fan of the stripes.  I also opted for the additional rounds to make it more slouchy – it doesn’t see to lay exactly how I expected, but it works.  And the skinny cables are my favorite part.  So while I do not plan to do a purl-heavy project any time soon, I do love this hat.  A lot.

You know what else I love a lot? Co-workers that will model for me. :)  Thank you, Hailey!
