You guys know we have two dogs, right? Chevy, the big one that’s deaf. And Chase, the smart little one that bounces around like she doesn’t realize she’s 10 years old. I’ve referred to Chevy as the “BDD” for years now (you’re familiar with my hashtag #BDDlove) and I’m finding that some people, who have known me and my dogs for years, didn’t realize that BDD stands for Big Deaf Dog.
Some think the middle “D” stands for dumb… or is silent. (Get it? Deaf dog joke!) Some have thought that the “B” stands for blind… and while the BDD does like to play Helen Keller by sticking her head into a pillow case and making dinosaur sounds as she tries to bite whatever is around her, her vision is just fine. Her hearing is the issue.
I wanted to clear the air: BDD is short for Big Deaf Dog. She’s the not the brightest crayon in the box and she’s a little smelly too, but she’s just 60 pounds of furry happiness that can’t hear shit. And we love her. Most days.
