I was chatting with a coworker on Monday who is also participating in our Project 52 this year and we agreed: it has been a funky time of year to stay inspired.
Even with daylight savings over and longer days before us, this in between of winter and spring… having trouble waking up and falling asleep… work is getting super busy so how do we stay motivated… and I just tell it like it is.
For me, this challenge is about keeping a camera in my hands every week. I want 52 photos at the end of the year. And I can honestly say that if it wasn’t for this project, I wouldn’t be even trying to pick up my camera. Not every week is going to make me happy… but for me, it’s about pushing myself and at least trying.
So I went easy on myself when I didn’t try until Tuesday again…
Settings: auto – f/1.7, 1/50 sec, 4.25mm, ISO 80
Camera and Lens: Samsung Galaxy s8
Luckily, inspiration hit at lunch time.
A group of ladies from the office ventured over to the new Omni in Louisville and OH MY GOD IS BEAUTIFUL. But we were there for the food. And OH MY GOD THE FOOD. But seriously. I knew that the hotel was going to be a sight to see (just from the pictures and news segments on TV), so I had my cell phone out, ready to shoot. Only the “boot brigade” in front me caught my eye.
Well… the boot brigade and Amy’s sneakers. (Which we totally high-fived about because I had on my Keds too. Red Keds.)
So what do I like about this image? For starters, I like how you can see an odd number of models at varying distances. (Hello, rule of odds.) The negative space on the bottom half. How it feels balanced both top and bottom, left and right. The small movements I caught in their steps. The anonymity of the ladies. Which, if I’m being 100% with you all, is what I like best about it.
While I know who is who… which people I’ve known long enough to know their footsteps and have nicknames with… which ones I’m still getting to know, but cheer for them on the sidelines… you don’t know them. But I care and support them all, and I like to think I tell them that frequently. I feel like the Mother Hen these days, but these ladies are important to me. And it reminds me of a gal from many years ago told me that you should never stop making girlfriends; that as women, we adapt to our current situations and if we keep making friends, we’ll always have someone to support and feel supported by.
Keep that in mind, ladies. Always keep making friends. Then you’ll never be alone.
Week 14: Colorful
I am ready to for some serious inspiration as we start our second quarter – the hunt is on for something COLORFUL.
The subject can be what ever you want, but wow us with the multitude, the hues, the saturation that you’re able to discover. Make it warm, make it cool, make it bright, make it pastel, make it monotone, make it the main subject, make it stand alone… find the color in the world around you and get lots in you craft. Let your eyes drift a little more, see if inspiration can come to you in an unexpected way, and shoot with your heart. I really can’t wait to see all the photos next week!
