Week 46: A Good Match | 2018 Project 52

I don’t know about you, but daylight savings is making my life miserable right now. Losing daylight so quickly at night… ugh, the worst. And I just feel drained. Work isn’t just busy, it’s psychotic – in a good way, but that doesn’t make it any easier. I’ve been having to listen to meditation music at work to keep the stress that builds up far, far away. I know I need to do yoga but I’d rather sleep. I mean…

I’m complaining.

Some good news? I had an idea this week. Just a day late and a dollar short…
good match

Settings: f/3.2, 1/160 sec, 35mm, ISO 16K
Camera and Lens: Canon EOS 5D Mark III with Canon EF35mm f/1.4L USM

I really wanted to play with a mirror because, well, reflection… what’s a better match than a reflection? But had a hard deciding what was interesting enough. I threw myself down on the mirror and was sold on what I saw on the LCD screen.

It’s not a perfect reflection, and I like that about it. My hair breaks up the image a bit, there isn’t a clear line of division and even the reflection is distorted a bit. I don’t like that my face is out of focus. I leaned into though, thinking what else could maybe elevate the image, so I added some grain and very selectively highlighted areas. I’m not great at editing images, but it has been fun getting to know Lightroom better. And tell other people tricks that I’ve learned – I like the part best. :)

Week 47: Unity
due 11.21.18

The state of being united or joined as a whole. Harmony. Pleasing. Oneness. A complex whole.

In a world where we sometimes feel all alone, we really are in it together.

This week let’s let our minds explore what this word means and how we can photograph it. I encourage you to really consider your subject(s) this week and the story you want to tell. Don’t just point and shoot, but walk around your subject(s) and consider how to make your image, your story, stronger.

If you post your images on Instagram or any other social media, use the hashtag #2018P52 so that we can find your work and share some hearts!

We’re in the home stretch of 2018 Project 52 with only 6 weeks left to go! Plans for #2019P52 are underway but will stick only to Flickr. There will be some changes, but I think they’re for the better. Check out our 2018P52 Flickr group description to learn more about 2019’s project!
