Week 49: Diamond | 2018 Project 52

Had a plan all week. Didn’t take my picture until last night. #winning

But it almost turned out as I had hoped.

Settings: f/4.0, 1/80 sec, 35mm, ISO 10K
Camera and Lens: Canon EOS 5D Mark III with Canon EF35mm f/1.4L USM

My friend Krista doesn’t even know it, but she totally helped me this week.

She wore this sweater a few times to work and I always fawned over it. When she decided to part ways with it, she gave it to me. Very sweet. Except for the fact it’s a size small and I am not. Oy vey. But I started looking for diamonds last Wednesday and I had dozens of them sitting on the back of my chair. Fate, man. I swear I didn’t think up this prompt because of the sweater. What’s the fun in that?

I took the sweater home (because there is like no time at work and daylight is a bust every day), and finally got around to trying some shots. Of course, I leaned toward the self-portrait. And I know that some people don’t like them, they seem egotistical, whatever you want to say… but I like controlling the camera when I’m in front of it. Yeah, it’s me on the couch looking at the television… but this is something I do often. And now I have proof of my potato ways. ;)

Week 50: Cloud Nine
due 12.12.18

The phrase to be on cloud nine, meaning that one is blissfully happy, started life in the United States and has been widely known there since the 1950s.

What is your cloud nine? Or a loved one of your’s that makes you float too?

Consider the things around… people, tasks, memories… that bring you to a place of bliss. And consider how you’d photograph the subject in a way to tell your story, connect the viewer with how you feel.

If you have trouble, reach out to your family and friends – ask them what brings them bliss. Then ask them to be your subject. I dare you.

We’re in the home stretch of 2018 Project 52 with only 3 weeks left to go! Plans for #2019P52 are underway but we will stick only to Flickr. There will be some other changes, but I think they’re for the better. Our new group is set up already, so join us on Flicker at 2019 P52!
